Growing a Successful Pet Grooming Business

Jayme Montero takes us behind the scenes at pet grooming spa Purrdy Paws, and explains the role DaySmart Pet has played in helping her business grow from strength to strength.

Purrdy Paws is a popular dog and cat grooming spa, offering both in-salon and mobile services in Ottawa. For as long as she can remember, animals have played a major part in founder Jayme Montero’s life. 

“Most of my fondest memories growing up were spent with my pets. From a very young age, I always had a deep connection with animals and knew one day I would follow my dreams of helping them and their people.”

Turning a passion into a career 

As an adult, Jayme took on jobs in customer service, bars, and restaurants but there was always something missing. It was then that she decided to revisit her childhood dream. 

“I pursued employment in a veterinary clinic setting. Although rewarding, I began to pursue other animal care interests. This led me to the NCGIA in Greenville, South Carolina, where I graduated as a Certified Feline Master Groomer.” 

Jayme soon began to reap the rewards of her hard work and dedication, opening the first and only feline exclusive mobile grooming spa to come to Ottawa. The business proved so successful that just one year later, she added another mobile spa—focusing exclusively on dogs—to meet the needs of her ever-growing client base, many of whom owned multiple pets.

Staying on the road to success 

Understandably, Jayme was delighted to continue expanding her services and growing list of impressive achievements! 

“I could have never imagined I would have the opportunity to expand my horizons even further and open three brick and mortar shops in one of the most historic and community focused parts of the city.”

Jayme and her team of animal enthusiast professionals pride themselves on providing the best in care for furry companions, and are always on the lookout for ways to improve the customer and pet experience. 

“I began using DaySmart about 10 years ago, when the other software I was using wasn’t supporting the volume of clients or keeping their information as organized. DaySmart was recommended to me in a grooming group on Facebook and I am very happy to have made the switch.”

“There are going to be days that you give 100% to your business and you succeed, then there will be days you will fail. You have to give 100% of yourself every time because no one else is going to support, love and dedicate themself to your business like YOU.”
